A well-loved 1940’s cottage near the ferry had suffered from several generations of janky additions and home handyman quick-fixes which cleverly conspired to all fail simultaneously. Re-using the existing foundations and simplifying the new form allowed us to provide a grand new view to the reach. Overhangs are precisely calibrated to supply generous natural light, while double-stud walls and a super-insulated roof provide an excellent thermal envelope. At 1500sf, this single storey house has become the “forever home” of its occupants.
