Originally the general store for the village of Hubbs Creek (c 1835), this building was long ago added-to and converted into a home – probably when the overshadowing presence of nearby Wellington became too great to ignore. The project called for the renovation of existing interior spaces as well as a small vestibule addition. What became clear early on in the design process is that all of the ground floor spaces (kitchen, dining, living) would be much improved if they were rearranged, with the kitchen taking in the morning light and the living room occupying the entirety of the original store. A large picture window on the north completes the living room, while a contemporary addition to the west plays off the roof lines of the existing front porch.
